Lovely Hamburg

LOVEly Flower Shop: SAXIFRAGA

Hello everyone! Here is another flower shop I visited for my article in sisterMAG last year. This shop is all about mini-bouquets. If you read my blog, you know I like mini-bouquets. My lovely #2flowergirls Inga from glomerylane calls me the "mini-bouquet lover"!

Saxifraga in Hamburg, is one of my all time favourite flower shop. Forget everything you know about flower shops before you go there. The owner Carola Wineberger is a very creative lady and really manages to create atmospherical flower compositions.  The shop is situated in the very creative district called Karolinenviertel or Karoviertel and surrounded by many small shops with a lot of handmade fashion and decoration items.

She makes some very small bouquets and displays them in recycled jars or shot glasses – they really look like the ones I loved making when I was a child - and still make now. No vase is small enough for these little beauties. She sells them for a couple of Euros. I find it so refreshing to find that kind of bouquet in a flower shop. So far away from all those pre-formated bouquets you find everywhere with gerberas and a lot of green.

Have a great day and speak to you soon! Elodie

Herr Max

Herr Max Hello everyone,
as promised yesterday, I am presenting you today the lovely Herr Max in Hamburg where the Räder presentation took place.
It is located in the Sternschanze district in Hamburg, in the same street as the great flower shop Grüne Flora. It has this rough flair I particularly like. If you are visiting Hamburg, I really recommend visiting this amazing place for a coffee, a piece of cake, or an ice-cream in the summer. Herr Max is open everyday from 10:00 to 21:00.

New vases collection by Räder

Hello everyone,
Last year in November I was invited to the press event of the German company Räder, for the presentation of their new home collection, with among others some new vases that I am very found of. I will be styling some flowers in those vases this spring, but now that the presentation has been shown to the public (It was shown today at the Nordstil Fair in Hamburg) I can show you some images of those pretty vases. I am so happy to see some more creative vases on the market this days. The mini vases collection is great and I am a big fan of the lady looking at the fishes. The size is really good for bigger branches and bouquets.
The presentation took place in one of my favourite cafés in Hamburg called Herr Max. A very stylish and nostalgic café with a lot of flair. I will show some pictures of Herr Max later this week.
I wish you a great week!
Talk to you soon,
Elodie

Dear Matsu - A lovely tea salon in Hamburg

Hello everyone,
I am enjoying the calm at home right now, as my little one is still sleeping and my husband has left to go to work. Today I would like to share with you my new discovery in Hamburg. I discovered this lovely place last week when pushing the pram and my neighborhood with my friend Sabrina.
Dear Matsu, is a new tea salon and vegan restaurant in lovely Hamburg - Eppendorf, situated in the lovely Erikastrasse. The place opened in March and looks so Japanese! I completely fell in love with it. It is incredible, but the owners Mathias and Sylvia have never been to Japan - but as I told them, you really have the impression that this place could be in a street of Tokyo or Kyoto. The place is called dear matsu after their favourite sort of tea.
The decoration is absolutely lovely and puristic - I am particularly in love with the copper Tom Dixon lamps on the green wall.

The teas served are so delicious and you can also buy more than 60 varieties of tea from all over the world, Japanese tea pots and cups as well as delicious vegan food. You can consult the daily menu on their Facebook page.

Lovely flower shop: Grüne Flora

Hello everyone,
Today I take you to a shop I really like in lovely Hamburg. This is a flower shop I photographed for the flower guide I wrote for the online magazine sisterMAG.

gruene_flora_Hamburg_outside

This shop is situated in the part of Hamburg called Sternschanze.
The shop is called after a building in the same street (Schulterblatt) named rote flora - a former theatre, squatted since 1989.

gruene_flora_inside

The flowers in the shop are very elegantly presented and the interior of the shop is spectacular, with a floor made out of loose stones and a little wooden path in the middle that makes you feel as if you were in a garden.
The walls inside are painted in a very nice shade of turquoise and they also sell a great selection of vases.

gruene_flora_caspedia

They also have a large variety of outdoor plants for balconies.

First Feingemacht - Designer market in Hamburg

Hello everyone, A new designer market took place last Saturday in Hamburg. As I was feeling well and baby love hadn't decided to show up yet, I decided to give it a try. It was situated in a very nice part of the Hamburg Conference Centre with a lot of day light and a direct access to the botanical garden "Planten & Blomen". Here is an overview of my favorite exhibitors:

1. Beton Schere Papier:

Beton schere papier is a very sweet brand that produces concrete objects. I am in love with their cute candle holders.

2. nikoki:

nikoki is a doll maker from Berlin. I have met her several times already in Hamburg and Berlin and I am a big fan of her work. Her little grey giraffe already moved into baby love's little nursery. Her handmade dolls are so creative and she gives so much attention to details. I also love her choice of fabrics and how much she loves Japanese fabric. She is working on her website and there should be some new little animals to buy from next week. I am very much in love with Jean Luc the elephant and Pierre the bear and their little baguette.

3. BOUBOUKI

Boubouki offers great solutions to pimp the tiles in your bathroom or in your kitchen, with very beautiful tiles stickers in the standard format 10x10 cm, 15x15 cm, 20x20 cm. You can also order some custom-made sizes on their website.

4. Frau Sieben:

My friend Trixi from the label Frau Sieben was also there. I talked about her Etsylab on the blog a couple of weeks ago. I love her jewelry and wooden candle holders. I think I need a golden one for my living room. Trixi is also a graphic designer and designed the lovely logo for my sweet virtual baby shower.

Schön und ehrlich

Hello everyone, Today I want to present you an interior shop I love in Hamburg-Winterhude. It's called "schön und ehrlich" which could be translated as beautiful and simple. I love the puristic design of the shop and the selection of pretty design objects. It is the perfect shop to visit if you want to decorate your home with original items or find an exclusive present for a friend. When you enter the shop, you can see that the two charming shop-owners have a passion for typography and design. The selection goes from home accessories such as beautiful lamps, bare light bulbs and stools to paper craft, postcards and stamps. You can find a lot of pretty prints, for example from the Hamburg-based label Stellavie. I also love their tableware selection from the Hamburg manufacturer ahoi marie, from kopjes or from design letters with the beautiful letter cups designed by Danish designer Arne Jacobsen. Indra is an art director and Christina an architect and you can feel it through the things they sell in their shop. Besides some well-known brands such as house doctor and pantone, you can find a lot of small brands with lovely hand-made products.

You can find a list of the brands they sell on their lovely website.

Have a great day,

Elodie Here are a couple of views of the shop, from my last visit:

LIV - A new shop in Hamburg

Hello everyone, Last week I visited a new shop in Hamburg for you. The newly opened LIV in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel is full with Scandinavian and German design and fashion. You will find some usual suspects of Danish design such as house doctor but also some less well-known brands. On the fashion side, you can find some great stuff from the Swedish brand Twist & Tango for instance. The presentation is lovely and the selection amazing. The shop really feels cosy as if you were visiting the charming shop owner Mareike at home. Mareike is not only a shop owner with a very good taste. She is also a graphic designer and has her own postcard label called Papier ahoi. The lovely postcards can also be purchased in the shop itself. Here are a couple of photos from LIV. I hope you will visit the shop yourself soon. It should definitely be on your to do list if you want to do a design and interior tour of the city. Have a great day, Elodie

Soirée provençale in Hamburg

Dear all, I had a great start to the weekend. I went to a "soirée provençale" in Hamburg on Friday night. It was organised in the French café called Metropolitain that I already presented on the blog in December - you can read more here.  It was the French concept of "table d'hôtes". Our hostess was the French cook Eve based in Hamburg. Table d'hôte literally means "the host's table" in French. The term is used to denote a table set aside for residents of a guesthouse. Everyone sits down around a large table and makes small-talk. It is not like in a restaurant, there is only one sitting, the price is fixed and the menu set in advance. The theme of the evening was Mediterranean cuisine. We had taboulé to start with, an aioli -  a speciality from Marseilles with cold fish, vegetables and a garlic mayonnaise - perfect for the hot weather we are experiencing, and a lovely fruit salad with a madeleine to finish with.

Soiree_provencale_table_overview

We sat at a table with 15 people in front of the Café Metropolitain and the atmosphere was great, we met lovely people, shared a great meal, a mix of French and German conversations started around the table, mainly about food, as is traditional in France.  It was like being in the middle of a Kinfolk dinner. soiree provencale_Metropolitain

We all had a great night and I was very happy to help the organisers Melody, Ulrike and Eve with the flower decoration. Here are a couple of pictures of the flowers and the food:

crêpe de chine et macarons

Hello everyone, yesterday, I was lucky enough to be invited to visit the great pop-up store of the label 7 Chic Avenue. This is the gorgeous label of designers Marianne and Jutta. The pop up store is open until this Saturday in the Isestrasse 79 in Hamburg-Eppendorf. If you can't make it, you can purchase their very elegant and feminine creations online. They use some very exquisite fabric such as crêpe de chine. Another highlight of this event was the catering, made by Aurelie Gourmet. Aurélie is well-known in Hamburg for her macarons. You can find them every Saturday at the Marktzeit in Altona (currently on summer break). Yesterday, we didn't just have macarons but also chouquettes - a small choux pastry sprinkled with sugar and cannelés (the sweet speciality from Bordeaux) - and it was delicious - It felt like home for an hour or so. Thank you Aurélie!

Milchmädchen - or where to find the softest blanket in the world!

through the window at milchmaedchen in hamburg Hello everyone,

Happy new year! Here comes my first blogpost of 2013 and it's about a very nice shop in Hamburg, which has a very good online shop too. So not only for Hamburgers this time! Just before Christmas I took the time to pay a visit to one of my favorite decoration shops called "Milchmädchen" (milkmaid). I have been wanting to do it for ages. It is a very charming place with a lot of not so well-known designers from all over the world and delicate hand-made products. I really recommend this shop to people who like to do things themselves, as you can find a lot of pretty supplies such as Japanese washi tape (If you want ideas about what to do with washi tape, you can check out my Pinterest board Lovely washi tape),  colourful wrapping-paper and stamps.

You can also find some very pretty jewellery and candles. It's the ideal place to find a nice present for a friend.

My favorite items at Milchmädchen are the ceramic pears (from S to XXL) and I am lucky enough to have two of them at home, a big white one and a small one in copper. They are made by the Brasilian artist Selma Calheira and Milchmädchen is one of the few places in Europe to distribute them. beautiful ceramic pears by Cores da Terra But the highlight for me at Milchmädchen is definitely the blankets. I fell in love with them a long time ago, and was so happy when Mr. Love gave me a golden and grey one for my birthday this year. They come from Spain and the brand is called Hijos de Cecilio Valgañón and they are made out of mohair. You can either buy one that is already in the shop or order one from the catalogue and have it made for you with exactly the size and colour or colour combination you wish. It is the warmest, softest and most beautiful blanket I have ever had, and it's perfect for anyone who is cold-sensitive like me. It is now my best companion for watching TV on the sofa.

The Human Empire - A design studio and a shop

Hello everyone, I have another shop presentation and another spot will be soon completing my little interior design map of Hamburg. The Human Empire is originally a design studio that turned into a shop in Hamburg. The shop is very well-known for the posters with their own design and designs from other designers which can be bought online too. They also sell a selection of items from very interesting designer, such as Donna Wilson and exclusive magazines such as Kinfolk Magazine *Kinfolk is a growing community of artists with a shared interest in small gatherings* and the magazine is really great, or the beautiful books from the Japanese editor Paumes as well as casual clothes for men and women. The TIGER print from my living room, that I presented there and there also comes from Human Empire. I wish you a wonderful and stress-free day and hope that this post will inspire you bit, maybe to redecorate your home a bit with a new print or find some original x-mas presents. xxx Elodie

Eden Living - black, white and a bit of grey

Eden Living in Eppendorf is a very classic interior shop offering almost only black, white and grey furnitures and accessories, with a touch of neon of course. It is the perfect if you have a monochromatic interior and are looking for timeless, classic and natural design with a lot of wood. I am in love with their grey and black washi-tape. As I often say: keep it simple.

Lys Vintage - A classic among the interior shops

Follow my blog with Bloglovin You can't write about the loveliest Interior design shops in Hamburg, without talking about Lys Vintage. It is not a secret anymore, but if you are visiting Hamburg, it should definitely be on your list! Lys means light in Danish. The showroom in Hamburg is like a mini-design museum with furnitures, lamps and accessories  from normann copenhagen, Ferm Living, Hay and many more. The online shop is brilliant and I really like the blog part of the website, and the section "im echten Leben" (in real life), presenting the objects in the apartments of their new owners.

Das siebte Zimmer - Welcome to paradise

Hello everyone, Have you ever heard of das 7. Zimmer (the 7th Room) in Hamburg? I think this is the most poetic place I have ever seen in my life - and this is one of the reasons why I was happy moving to Hamburg. A lot of German interior magazines, such as Living at Home or Schöner Wohnen work with this shop and when I read them when I lived in Berlin and came across a piece of furniture I liked, a lot of the time it came from das 7. Zimmer. So when I moved to Hamburg, this is the first shop I visited - and now I live just around the corner.

If you have never heard of the shop, you can pass by a hundred times without noticing it. The shop has a tiny (and usually beautifully styled) shop window in the Hegestrasse with a sign indicating the opening hours and a note saying: there is more  to see in the barn on the other side of the street. The actual shop is situated in the attic of a very old building in a courtyard. The stairs are very steep and there is not much heating but it is definitely worth it! The place is just magical and full of candles with some loud classical music in the background giving the place an incredible atmosphere. Everything there is unusual with a lot of French antiques and a couple of original Eames and Tolix chairs here and there. You have the feeling of being all of a sudden in another century. I hope you will visit this place if you have the occasion to. Please let me know your thoughts on this very unique place!
